Adrian Lam has attempted to dissect what was a shocking Leigh Leopards performance, as they were defeated by the Huddersfield Giants.
The Leopards’ three-game winning run came to an abrupt end, with no player standing out and far too many putting in their worst efforts of the season.
Owen Trout opened the scoring, with Leigh winning the territory battle early on, however, Huddersfield clawed their way back, and the away side were unable to take back control, with their pack heavily beaten – something that hasn’t happened on too many occasions this year.
Umyla Hanley and Robbie Mulhern added second-half scores that could have potentially formed a comeback, but Leigh never looked like they could fight the adversity, with too many lazy plays and poor errors letting them down.
Speaking to the press post-match, Lam said: “I’m pretty frustrated to be honest with you, disappointed.
“It was hard to watch, just nothing like what we’ve been over the last four months. A lot to work on”
The boss was quick to credit their opponents, who played a brilliant game and stunned the Leopards, who came here thinking that they would do to the Giants what the Giants did to them.
“We knew we were going to come here and have a tough game, but we also knew that we needed to be sharp with our high completions and minimum errors.
“I thought we just compounded really badly. It’s probably the worst we played for the last three or four months.”

Adrian Lam slams “unacceptable” referee call in Leigh Leopards defeat to Huddersfield
Lam took the time in his presser to voice his displeasure over one call that went against his side, with the Leigh boss believing that the Giants’ first try shouldn’t have been awarded.
He explained: “I thought Huddersfield were awesome, but I thought the first try to, I think it might have been Rogers on Mulhern.
“I thought it was a no try, and games like this, you need those calls to be right, and I thought they got that wrong.
“It was just, they put us under pressure, that got them to six all, and from there, they took advantage of that.”
It was Harry Rushton that scored first, diving over on 30 minutes, though Fenton Rogers did obstruct Mulhern in the build-up, which is believed to be what the Leopards boss is referring to.
Lam said later in the presser: “It was never a try, not in a million years, and I think to get that wrong in such an important game, and the timing of the game, is just unacceptable. It’s crucial.”
