Leigh Leopards boss answers Lachlan Lam future question after cryptic comments

Leigh Leopards Lachlan Adrian Lam

Leigh Leopards’ Lachlan Lam spoke about his future last week on Sky Sports with a post-match interview that led to more questions than answers, and now his father and coach, Adrian, has responded.

After putting in a Man of the Match performance to help Leigh Leopards defeat Castleford Tigers, Lam was asked about his future with the club amidst reports linking him to Hull FC.

He explained: “It’s a tough one for me to answer as well. We’re working on some stuff and I’m not really in a position to comment on that too much.

“We’re working on some stuff at the moment so hopefully we can clear that up in the next week or so.”

As yet, nothing has been cleared up but the Leigh Leopards presser today ahead of their Tuesday night clash against Wigan Warriors, head coach Adrian Lam was asked about his son’s future.

Speaking ahead of their rescheduled fixture, Adrian Lam spoke generally about Leigh Leopards and how they had prepared for such a short turnaround, but as is the case with such a hot topic, he couldn’t avoid a question about the future of his son.

However, he answered with a straight bat, stating: “Yeah, there’s nothing for me to add to that. Sorry, it is what it is at the moment.

“My focus is on this short turnaround, making sure that we give our best performance against Wigan, so we’ll deal with that first.”

The speculation around Lachlan Lam seemed to have been settled when he signed a contract extension that committed his future to the club, however, Hull Live first reported back in July that Hull FC were targeting Lam as a marquee signing for 2025.

That offer was said to be ‘huge’ and Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks claimed that the deal was done, explaining live on Sky Sports: “It looks like Hull FC have got their latest man from the Leigh Leopards. It is believed that Lam has activated a clause in his contract that will enable him to leave at the end of the year.”

With Leigh Leopards taking a clear stance not to comment on transfers, as evidenced by Lam’s comments today, fans will remain in the dark about where Lachlan Lam will be playing in 2025 until any official announcement is made.

If Hull FC did sign him, then Lam would be the club’s seventh signing for 2025 and the fifth from Leigh Leopards, following John Asiata, Zak Hardaker, Ollie Holmes and Ed Chamberlain, who is currently on loan with the club.
