Leigh Leopards appeal for information after complaints over ‘crowd behaviour’

After their Super League semi-final defeat at the hands of neighbours Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards have appealed for information after complaints regarding ‘crowd behaviour’.

Leigh Leopards saw their hopes of making it to a maiden Grand Final slashed as Wigan cruised past them as they ran in six tries to win 38-0.

It was a dominant performance from Wigan but also an incredibly sad way for Leigh to end their season with the Leopards bidding farewell to several key players at the end of this campaign.

Moreover, Leigh’s incredible second half of the season which saw them win eleven of their final thirteen games almost seemed in vain given the ease of Wigan’s win and that prompted emotions to be high across coaches, players and even fans.

The club are now appealing for information from fans after receiving complaints from fans regarding crowd behaviour, something Leigh will further investigate.

That was confirmed by the Leopards who shared a brief statement to their website and via their social media channels, enforcing the fact that they ‘will not tolerate anti-social behaviour’.

A statement read:  “Further to complaints received from our supporters concerning crowd behaviour, we will be undertaking an investigation around these behaviours.

“We would ask anyone with any information or videos to provide these in confidence to enquiries@leighrl.co.uk.

“Anyone found to have breached the code of conduct of Leigh Leopards, Wigan Warriors and the RFL will be dealt with accordingly.

“As a club, Leigh Leopards will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.”

It remains unclear what issues have occurred or by which set of fans with Leigh Leopards simply confirming that they have received complaints from their own fans.

Wigan Warriors are yet to release a statement on the matter whilst Serious About Rugby League have contacted the RFL for comment on any possible investigation.

A crowd of 20,511 turned up at the Brick Community Stadium to witness the match, the highest play-off crowd since 2004 and the third-highest in Super League play-off history.

The Leigh fans set off a number of flares after the interval, one of which was thrown onto the pitch just inches from two youngsters who were volunteering as ballboys and ballgirls. They were choking in the smoke and a steward had to ensure they didn’t touch the hot flare.

At least one of the reprobates was dragged down from the upper tiers by the stewards.

Not the first time that the inbreds have been causing ruptions when they climb out of their sisters for long enough for their fingers to dry.
