Leigh Leopards have announced the signing of Isaac Liu as Adrian Lam’s 2025 squad begins to come together. The Leopards saw their season come to an end last weekend as they were beaten by Wigan Warriors in the Super League play-off semi-finals.
The loss saw a raft of stars play their final game for the club with the likes of John Asiata, Tom Amone and Zak Hardaker moving on. As such, the Leopards are undergoing something of a rebuild ahead of 2025 and that is now well underway with the addition of Liu following the signing of David Armstrong, which was announced earlier in the season.
Liu has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Leopards in a switch that will see the 33 year-old bring his spell with Gold Coast Titans to an end. The loose-forward has spent the last three seasons with the Titans, having spent the first nine years of his career in the colours of Sydney Roosters, where he made over 200 appearances.
He has amassed 272 appearances in the NRL across his career with further outings coming with the Samoa and New Zealand national teams, collecting 10 caps for the latter.
“We are obviously delighted in signing Isaac. He brings a wealth of experience and quality leadership to the playing group,” Chris Chester, Leigh Leopards’ head of rugby, told the club website about the addition.
“He has played in successful sides in the NRL competition and having lost the experience of John Asiata and Ricky Leutele, and those kinds of guys it was important we got a leader.
“Isaac is definitely one of those guys and I’m sure he will become a fans’ favourite at Leigh Leopards in 2025.”
Liu is expected to be joined at the Leigh Sports Village by at least two more signings from the NRL, with owner Derek Beaumont confirming last month that a trio of overseas signings had been made.
