“Kills you…” – Adrian Lam brutally honest on Leigh Leopards’ situation

Leigh Leopards

Adrian Lam has spoken after a gruelling season has Leigh Leopards sitting outside of the all-important playoff positions in the Super League table.

The beginning of the season was a really poor one, after a successful 2023, as they lost seven of their first eight games, only defeating Hull FC in that time.

However, starting with a 30-2 win over Catalans Dragons, they then went on a run of losing just one of their next seven.

Some of this has been put down to Matt Moylan’s improvement – and perhaps getting used to the league – since being moved to full-back.

Their injury problems have been vast, with key players such as John Asiata being out for much of the season, and despite their improved results, they remain nine points behind Catalans Dragons in the final playoff spot, and are just two points ahead of Castleford Tigers behind them.

Naturally, after finishing in the playoff spots last year, and winning the Challenge Cup, their goal will be to creep into the post-season again.

Adrian Lam gives honest assessment of Leigh Leopards

Adrian Lam, in a press conference ahead of their game against Huddersfield Giants – who they could leapfrog this weekend – revelaed his frustration at talk around whether they would make it.

He said: “I’m actually getting tired of talking about it and looking at that top six as it just zaps me of energy. It’s difficult to do on a day-to-day and a week-to-week basis.

“I’m going to make a commitment to myself that I’m not going to look at that ladder now for the next three weeks and just let itself play out.

“It’s hard work and it’s the hope that kills you, as they say, so we’ve just got to make sure we look after ourselves with both our preparation and with the 80 minutes on the field.

“Another week with healthy players means that we can build momentum as mentioned.”

Leigh Leopards host Huddersfield Giants on Saturday 13th July at 3pm.
