Leigh forward pair sign new deals

Experienced Leigh Centurions forwards Alex Gerrard and Tom Spencer have both signed new deals for the 2021 season.

Gerrard arrived at the club from Mackay Cutters in Australia after previously spending nine years with Widnes Vikings. He made six appearances before the season was voided, scoring on his home debut against Sheffield Eagles.

Spencer is into his fourth spell at the club, after joining from London Broncos at the start of 2019. He’s made a total of 166 career appearances, most of which have come for the Centurions.

On the re-signings, Leigh head coach John Duffy said: “Alex settled in at the club very quickly and hit his straps from day one. He is a player who can give us big minutes and this is a huge signing for us.

“I’ve known Alex for a long time from his days as an Academy player at Widnes Vikings and he’s developed into a really good pro in that time. Although he only arrived at the Club in January, he really bought into what we are all about and his Super League experience will be invaluable.”

“Tom has been at the Club for a number of years now and is a good professional. He will do anything for you and is a great person to have in our group.

“Tom has shown me that he has great leadership qualities and is very clued up about the game and always looking to improve. He’s a big boy who is tough to handle and I’m so pleased to have him in our squad.”
