Leigh Centurions winger Brendan Elliot leaves club

Leigh Centurions winger Brendan Elliot has left the club following a short stint in Manchester.

He has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys back in the NRL.

Elliot has appeared in 66 NRL games over the course of seven seasons for the Roosters, Knights, Titans and Sea Eagles.

The 28-year-old spent the 2021 season in the UK Super League with Leigh Centurions, scoring three tries in 11 games, but with the signings of Kieran Dixon, Ed Chamberlain and Jy Hitchcox, chances would be at a premium for Elliot in 2022.

But, the Cowboys staff can’t wait to see Elliot in action for the club following the short-term contract.

“We are thrilled to sign a player of Brendan’s experience and character so late in the pre-season,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

“Brendan adds genuine experience, depth and competition to our outside backs, which is valuable in any season, but amplified in 2022 with the uncertainty the COVID-19 pandemic could have on player availability during the year.”

Leigh, meanwhile, just came up short in a hard-fought friendly with St Helens over the weekend in Alex Walmsley’s testimonial game, 16-6, which gave Adrian Lam’s men ample preparation for the new Championship season.
