Leigh Centurions transfer target rejects deal to sign for new club

Leigh Centurions target Nene MacDonald is set to sign for the Brisbane Broncos.

MacDonald was targeted by Leigh earlier in the season, but the winger instead took on a deal at the Norths Devils.

That move looks to have paid off as MacDonald is set to play in this weekend’s Intrust Super Cup Grand Final against Wynnum Manly at Moreton Daily Stadium and has a chance to impress for a train and trial contract at the Broncos ahead of the 2022 NRL season.

The 27-year-old has experienced the NRL with the Roosters, Titans, Dragons, Cowboys and Sharks and now has the chance to make it sixth time a charm with the Broncos.

A PNG international, the winger/centre has notched up 35 tries in almost 100 NRL games and so would be a welcome addition to a Brisbane outfit that struggled comprehensively in 2021.

Leigh, meanwhile, will have to look elsewhere to bolster their squad following their relegation from Super League.
