Leigh Centurions’ subtle hints at Leopards rebrand

Yesterday was one of the biggest days in Leigh’s history.

As they celebrate their return to Super League, the club unveiled the signings they hope will see them do more than just survive after they were relegated in 2005, 2017 and 2021 after one season in the top flight.

This time around, Adrian Lam, Chris Chester and Derek Beaumont have assembled an amazing squad with quality throughout.

They announced the signings of Zak Hardaker, Ricky Leutele, Tom Briscoe and others to go alongside retained current stars like Blake Ferguson and Edwin Ipape as well as retained players such as Nene MacDonald.

However, those signings some what played second fiddle however to the club’s bold rebrand as the Leigh Leopards which has been met with a mixed response and has been coupled with a new name and a new kit which includes a Leopard print unsurprisingly.

Many were taken aback by the decision, but the club did note that there had been subtle hints throughout the last year.

They said: “The club have subtly tested the water along the way, with Derek presenting himself to the crowd in a half leopard print hoodie which got much publicity… Moving towards having their Summer Bash kit with the partial leopard face from the new logo and red and black leopard print on the kit.”

So, Derek Beaumont’s bold fashion choices which have garnered plenty of attention were intentional and boosted by Leigh’s fantastic and smart magic shirt which really was the precursor to Leigh’s rebrand and new kit design.
