Leigh Centurions star linked with exit as Adrian Lam set for major new signings with a view to Super League

Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam speaks to Sky Sports

Leigh Centurions are building for a place in Super League – there are no doubts about that.

They have lost just once all season – an early round defeat to Featherstone Rovers – and have scooped the 1895 Cup in the process.

And, following yet another win over Rovers at the Summer Bash at the weekend festival in Leeds, head coach Adrian Lam waxed lyrical about his side, but kept his feet firmly on the ground with talk of Super League.

“I’m not mentioning Super League, I don’t want to talk about Super League or the Million Pound Game,” Lam told Rugby League Live.

“It’s about being on a journey as a group for this year because at the end of it a lot of them are going their separate ways.

“I say that in the sense that if everything works out for us, then the numbers don’t work for us and that’s the reality of it.

“We understand that as a group and it’s more important for me that we keep improving and understand what we did well.

“We’ve got an opportunity to create something for this group forever – we’ve got the 1895 Cup, and that’s nice, but that’s not what we’re about.”

Lam and Leigh have already signed the likes of Blake Ferguson, John Asiata and Lachlan Lam, but the former Wigan Warriors boss has made it clear that there is more to come.

“We’ve signed some quality players this year and the club has shown its intent with where it wants to be in the future, but whether that’s this year, next year or the year after, we will see.

“There are still some really good signings to announce, so I think we’re heading in the right direction, but it’s important that we keep our feet grounded and ask where we can get better as a group.”

Among those linked with an exit has been stellar second-rower Sam Stone who is reportedly being eyed up by Melbourne Storm.

Rugby League In The Know has been right about the signings of Blake Ferguson and Lachlan Lam in previous weeks and months.
