Leigh Centurions set to name new head coach

Leigh Centurions are ready to announce their new head coach – either tomorrow (Friday) or early next week.

Names have been tossed up such as Richard Marshall and even former Wigan Warriors boss Adrian Lam, with interim coach during the 2021 Super League season Kurt Haggerty thought not to be in the running.

Haggerty had been linked with a permanent deal at Leigh, and former Gold Coast Titans boss Jed Cartwright was also considered.

Cartwright, who turned out 16 times for Salford in 1997, is currently assistant to Kevin Walters at the Brisbane Broncos, but will not be taking the Centurions’ reins either.

Haggerty had previously said on the coach opening:

Marshall, who was sacked by Salford towards the back end of the 2021 season, has been interviewed for the role after previous roles as St Helens assistant as well as the Halifax head coaching position.

Meanwhile, Lam is without a job following his departure from Wigan after a less-than successful 2021 in which the Warriors finished fourth in the Super League table, but failed to make any inroads in the play-offs after an 8-0 home defeat to the Leeds Rhinos.
