Leigh Centurions set to make two major signings ahead of huge Featherstone Rovers clash

The Championship is pretty much a two-horse race now between Featherstone Rovers and Leigh Centurions.

That isn’t dismissing the possibility of another side making it into the Super League, but it’s perhaps just reality of the situation.

Both Rovers and Leigh have spent heavily in a bid to bankroll themselves to the top flight with the likes of Joey Leilua joining Featherstone and Caleb Aekins joining Leigh.

That has meant that both sides have built extremely formidable teams that would not look out of place in Super League – though the quota rules present in the first tier would mean that Featherstone and Leigh would have to cut some non-British players from their squads.

And, the recruitment from both sides has not yet finished either; Rovers announced the signing of Johnathon Ford at the weekend to go with Mark Kheirallah – both of whom were vital in Toulouse Olympique’s charge to Super League.

Determined not to be outdone, Leigh’s outspoken owner and chairman Derek Beaumont is set to announce two major signings before the two meet, according to Bradford Bulls journalist The Game Caller.

He tweeted: “Hearing the Leigh Centurions and Derek Beaumont will have two more big signings to announce in the coming weeks. They will arrive in time for the huge Round 15 Championship clash between Leigh and Featherstone in June. Both clubs are spending over £1M on the salary cap this year.”

Would love to see the numbers now of the Leigh squad, and the pay salary costs, for this season, every few days they seem to be signing players, as well as loaning players from St Helens & Wigan??

Leigh have had one player on loan from wigan and none from st helens. Think leigh have used dr from st helens for four matches involving three players Bell, Norman and Windfield. After signing Krisnan Inu Leigh’s squad numbers 23. Probably one the smallest squads.

Stephen, think you need to check your facts, on the 22 :March 2022, your coach, Adrian Lam, said to the media, and I quote.

Adrian Lam says ‘the more we can get James Bell from St Helens on dual-registration this year, the better it will be.’
