Leigh Centurions secure Warrington Wolves outside back on permanent deal

As Leigh prepare for life in the Championship, new Head Coach Adrian Lam and Head of Rugby Chris Chester have gotten down to business as the Centurions look to build a squad which will bounce straight back into the top flight.

The Centurions have taken another step towards doing so by securing the permanent services of young outside back Keanan Brand.

The former 1895 Cup Finalist started his career at Widnes making a total of 33 appearances for the Vikings having made his Super League debut as a teenager. His eye for a try during this period, scoring once every four games, saw him earn a move to Warrington where he made a handful of appearances in 2020 before joining Leigh on loan for the 2021 campaign.

The versatile back shone with the Centurions last term and was one of their most consistent performers no matter where he lined up across the back line. He’s clearly impressed those at the club who have now handed him a permanent deal ahead of 2022.

Speaking to the club’s website today, the 22-year-old expressed how pleased he is to be back at the club for 2022 and potentially beyond: “It is great to be back at the club. After my start at Widnes Vikings, I moved to Warrington but my opportunities to play were rare, so I jumped at the chance to come here this season. The fans are something else, they get right behind you throughout the game.”

Meanwhile, Head of Rugby Chris Chester noted the quality Brand will bring: “Keanan went down really well with everyone at the club last season including the faithful fans. I have heard plenty of good things about him. He will add quality and depth to the playing squad with his experience of playing in the outside backs in both Super League and The Championship.”
