Leigh Centurions respond to reports linking Adrian Lam with a move away

It was reported this morning by the World Wide of Sports that Leigh Centurions head coach Adrian Lam was being lined up to join Wayne Bennett’s coaching staff for the Dolphins’ debut season in 2023 with a view to taking the reins permanently when Bennett hangs up his clipboard for good.

As well as being the current Leigh boss – charged with earning promotion to Super League at the first time of asking – the ex-PNG international halfback is also assistant coach to Mal Meninga with the Australia national side.

However, the club – when approached by Serious About Rugby League – has dismissed such claims, labelling them as ‘fake news’ – the same manner in which Lam rejected claims about his son joining him at the Leigh Sports Village.

Lam was voted Betfred Super League Coach of the Year 12 months ago after being in charge of the Warriors for the last three seasons prior to his move to Leigh, guiding them to within 80 minutes of the Grand Final in his first year.

In 2020 Wigan lifted the League Leaders’ Shield but lost to St Helens in a dramatic Grand Final, with Lam and Wigan parting ways when his contract ended at the end of the 2021 season.

He is now working alongside head of rugby Chris Chester in order to help rebuild the club following their relegation.
