When Leigh Centurions brought in superstar Blake Ferguson, the rugby league world sat up and took notice.
Granted, his time in rugby union ended with him being jailed for a month in a Japanese prison, but to sign someone of Ferguson’s calibre definitely resonated throughout the world that Leigh were ready for the big time.
And, whilst many overseas signings fail to hit the mark in Super League or the Championship, Ferguson looks to be loving life, becoming a try-scoring machine at the Leigh Sports Village and earning considerable plaudits for the way in which he has taken to UK life.
It is therefore unsurprising that Ferguson has decided to etch a new two-year deal with the Centurions – a massive coup for owner Derek Beaumont and his side.

In fact, the former Australian international has committed so greatly to Leigh that he will play under head coach Adrian Lam no matter what league the Lancashire club finds itself in in 2023.
Of course, Super League is the overall aim, but it must be music to Leigh fans’ ears that Ferguson isn’t too fussed about the competition that the Centurions will find themselves in – he wants to stay regardless.
What a great piece of business by Leigh and evidence that the club is definitely in safe hands moving forward.
