Leigh Centurions 38-4 Bradford Bulls: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Leigh Centurions hosted the Bradford Bulls at the Leigh Sports Village tonight, live on Premier Sports.

It was a tense first-half with the home side only going in 8-4 up at the break. However, the Centurions proved far too strong in the end, scoring 34 unanswered points in the second forty minutes to steamroller home.

Matters were made worse for Bradford in the 79th minute when David Foggin-Johnston was handed a red card for a bad high tackle on Leigh’s Aaron Smith.

But what were the major talking points and highlights?

Highlights

Ed Chamberlain’s flick pass for Keanan Brand’s try in the first-half was definitely worth watching again.

Mark Ioane’s try in the second-half was truly sensational; the big forward rounded the fullback in superb fashion.

Talking points

1. Yet another red card

There was yet another red card seen in a rugby league game over the weekend when David Foggin-Johnston was given his marching orders close to the end for a bad tackle on Leigh’s Aaron Smith. It definitely did warrant a red with the new interpretation of the rules.

2. A tale of two halves

Bradford kept their Super League hopefuls to just two tries in the first-half, but the Centurions turned on the style in the second with a powerful and scintillating performance. It was almost like a different team came out of the sheds – Adrian Lam had clearly had a word or two.

3. Leigh finally got going

Leigh finally got their attack on fire in the second-half, rolling through the Bradford middle like a knife through butter. With Joe Mellor and Ben Reynolds on form and the Leigh forwards getting the better of their opponents, the Bulls just ran out of steam in trying to control them.
