Leeds youngster named Scotland Player of the Year

Young Leeds halfback Callum McLelland has been named as Scotland’s Player of the Year for 2019.
The 20-year-old played a huge part in the Bravehearts securing qualification for the 2021 World Cup, scoring three tries in total in their wins over Serbia and Greece, whilst also having a hand in several others.
He beat the likes of ex-St Helens prop Luke Douglas, new Wakefield fullback Alex Walker and Scottish captain Dale Ferguson to the award, whilst Dave Scott, Nick Glohe and Ben Kavanagh were also in the running.
“He (McLelland) was an absolute pleasure to coach and great around the group and settled in well making his debut,” said Scotland head coach Nathan Graham. “His performances speak for themselves, for a young player making his debut he was outstanding and showed great experience.”
Meanwhile, Jay Anderson won the Scotland Wheelchair Player of the Year award after captaining the nation to their first win since 2015, while Chris Jollands was crowned Student Player of the Year.
Just behind him in the standings was Conner Terrill, who was instead named Under-19s Player of the Year, with Sam Arundel winning the same award in the Under-16s age group.
