Leeds star set for lengthy spell on sidelines

14th February 2020, Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds, England; Betfred Super League, Leeds Rhinos v Hull Kingston Rovers : Harry Newman (3) of Leeds Rhinos celebrates his try

Harry Newman is set to be out for another six weeks, according to Leeds head coach Richard Agar.

The Rhinos centre hasn’t played since last September, but was on course to be given the green light in a month after suffering a double leg break.

However, Agar has revealed that Newman has suffered a setback.

“He had a scan this week and he’s still got some more healing to do which is frustrating for him,” Agar said.

“We were all systems go, but it’s such an injury that if it doesn’t heal and it goes again then we’ve got a major problem – I’m talking it could be a question mark on his career.

“He’s such a brilliant talent and he’s working so hard, but the speed of the healing hasn’t gone as well as it did early doors and his recovery has just tapered off a little bit.

“He had s setback and it’s a disappointment; there’s no complication with the injury, but the speed at which the bone is healing and knitting together, it hasn’t healed as well as we thought it would.

“He’ll go for another scan in six weeks.”
