George Williams has become an integral part of the Canberra side in the few years he has spent with the Green Machine. But, with reports emanating at the weekend that the halfback is homesick, just how did social media react?
This was the original tweet from Nine News’ Danny Weidler.
BREAKING: @RaidersCanberra are are aware that their star English half George Williams is homesick – they’ve talked to his agent and asked him to stay put. The club understands it’s been difficult with Covid and not seeing family and will put support around him. @9NewsSyd

One person could not help but feel sorry for Williams, having been away from his family for so long during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In all fairness George Williams has not been able to see his family back home in the UK due to Covid I can sympathise with him……….

A Canberra Raiders fan tried to coax Williams to stay with the offer a sausage roll!
As a very pale white guy with bad teeth, I am willing to hang out with George Williams for as long as he likes so he no longer feels homesick. Let’s go get a sausage roll together champ wadduya say? @George7Williams

Reuniting with Wigan would be Williams’ most likely destination, with Warriors fans pleading with General Manager Kris Radlinski to bring him back.

That was a view shared amongst most Wigan fans, whom have been hankering for Williams to return following the departure of Jackson Hastings.
Hastings replacement already in place…
Work your magic Radders and bring George Williams home!!! 🍒⚪

One supporter was even dreaming about the combination of Williams and Harry Smith in the halves.

Another hailed the prospect of a Williams/Smith partnership for the next half a decade.
Make it happen Wigan. George Williams and Harry Smith Wigan Half Back pairing for the next 5 years. It makes perfect sense.

One Leeds Rhinos fan even got in on the act, contacting Barrie McDermott to try and influence Williams to sign for the West Yorkshire club instead.
@RLBarrieMc10 Barrie you obviously have a lot of friends at our club. Any chance having a word with the likes of Kev and Longy about trying to persuade the club to go for George Williams. Rumours in Australia he is homesick. Leeds should go all out for him the sort of player we

However, someone actually believed it would give Canberra the chance to sign a more dominant halfback.
George Williams leaving the Canberra Raiders would be a HUGE opportunity for the club.
They could sign a real halfback that would improve their chances. Imagine the Raiders with Adam Reynolds guiding them around the park. #RugbyLeague #NRL
