The NRL have made a habit of signing English talent lately, especially in the forward pack, and it seems as though eyes are now on a Leeds Rhinos youngster.
With the likes of Newcastle Knights’ Kai Pearce-Paul and Canberra Raiders duo Morgan Smithies and Matty Nicholson to look upon, it seems another young English forward has caught the attention of the NRL.
Leeds Rhinos forward Morgan Gannon is said to be of interest to New Zealand Warriors, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 21-year-old has reportedly been offered a three-year contract with the Warriors, where former Rhinos boss Richard Agar is part of the coaching staff. In fact, it was Agar who gave Gannon his Leeds debut when he was 17 back in 2021.
The forward is off-contract at the end of the season but Rhinos fans are optimistic that the club can secure his services for 2026 and beyond.
Gannon is a second-rower, but with Dylan Walker leaving the Warriors to join Parramatta Eels recently, he could be seen as someone capable of helping to fill the void left by the number 13.
At just 21, Gannon has already made more than 50 appearances for Leeds, scoring 10 tries.
In 2025, he’s featured in all five of Leeds’ Super League games this season, but only started in one of them.
He also played in the Rhinos’ Challenge Cup victory over West Warriors and the loss to St Helens in round four.
Of course the NRL is seen as the sport’s premier competition and a move Down Under would certainly allow Gannon to challenge himself against the world’s best as he strives to improve and take the next steps in his career.
However, 2024 was a troubling year for the youngster after he spent the entire season on the sidelines following a host of concussion issues.
He is highly regarded by not only Rhinos fans but fans from across Super League as one of the most promising forwards in the competition.
