Leeds Rhinos Women snap up England Knights outside back

Leeds Rhinos Women have strengthened ahead of 2021 with the signing of England Knights outside back Tara Moxon from Wakefield Trinity.

The 23-year-old comes from a rugby union background, having started out playing for Barnsley Ladies, before switching codes to join Trinity last season.

Her performances earned her a call-up to the England Knights squad and she will now link up with Knights and Rhinos coach Lois Forsell at club level.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Rhinos,” she said. “I have been training with them over lockdown on their Zoom sessions and have recently had the chance to meet up with some of the girls in person. They have been really welcoming and I am looking forward to working with them all.

“Since I made the move to play rugby league I have really enjoyed it. It is physically testing but I have loved the challenge. I would like to thank Wakefield for giving me my chance in rugby league and the opportunity to play Super League. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and leave with very fond memories.”

“I know a few of the girls from the Knights squad, along with Lois, and I have also played in the Army RL side with Abby Eatock. It will be good to work with them at club level and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”

Rhinos Women head coach Lois Forsell added: “Tara has been training with us for a few months and she bought in to the virtual training that we ran over lockdown and she showed good commitment to train hard over that period, both online or in her own time with prescribed training plans.

“She is a raw talent who has really developed during her time with Wakefield and the Knights and I am looking forward to working with her.”

Alongside her playing commitments, Moxon works in health education and is also an Army Reservist, making her debut for the Army RL side earlier this year.

Army head coach, SSgt Woz Broadley RLC said: “It’s fantastic news that Tara has put her hand up to represent the Army RL. A player of her calibre will not go amiss, she will add to our already strong back line. I look forward to welcoming her into the squad when we get back underway.”
