Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors team news as Jai Field decision made

Wigan Warriors - 21/02/2025 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League Round 2 - Hull FC v Wigan Warriors - MKM Stadium, Kingston upon Hull, England - Wigan's Jai Field scores his second try against Hull FC.

Leeds Rhinos host Wigan Warriors on Saturday at Headingley and both head coaches have now confirmed their 21-man squads for the game.

Both sides are coming off a loss in the Challenge Cup with St Helens and Hull FC dumping Leeds and Wigan out respectively, the latter of those being a major shock especially given led early on.

It brings an end to the run of consecutive trophies for Wigan Warriors but it also poses a daunting prospect for Leeds in that they will have to play a Wigan side reeling from that defeat.

Not only did both sides suffer defeat in the Challenge Cup, they both picked up significant injuries with Leeds seeing Andy Ackers leave the field just before half time with what has since been confirmed as a torn hamstring.

That will rule him out for three months whilst Jai Field also suffered an issue which is of major concern, given how dominant he has been to start the season.

Leeds Rhinos team news

Brad Arthur makes changes to his Rhinos’ squad with Andy Ackers the major name to drop out but there are boosts for Leeds with Matt Frawley returning.

The half suffered a hand injury against Salford Red Devils before getting a concussion against Catalans but is back now whist Tom Holroyd, who was suspended against Castleford, returns after serving his ban.

Ryan Hall is set to play his 500th career game with the veteran winger, however, Leeds are still without some stars such as Maika Sivo and captain Cam Smith.

Wigan Warriors team news

Matt Peet has made just one change to his squad which is somewhat of a surprise given that both Adam Keighran and Jai Field were injury concerns but the latter is included.

Peet had confirmed that Keighran would miss eight to ten weeks due to a knee injury but he was non-committal on Field, stating: “We have got some more appointments before we’ll be able to put a timeframe on it.”

His inclusion in the squad is a major boost as it confirms that it is not a long-term injury, although it is still unclear if he will play this weekend.

Replacing Keighran is Abbas Miski with the winger having missed last week’s Challenge Cup clash against Hull FC.
