It is only Round Three of Super League but injuries are already racking up and two teams who know that are Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers with both sides missing plenty of players for their meeting at Headingley on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds Rhinos have picked up at least one injury per game this season, including two against Salford Red Devils last week whereas most of the Tigers’ woes are from last season and are long-term.
Here’s who is unavailable from both first team squads and when injured players could be back on the field.
Leeds Rhinos
Lachie Miller
The full-back began pre-season carrying a hamstring injury and subsequently picked up a calf muscle issue. He could be back in contention in the next two or three weeks.
Maika Sivo
Leeds’ star wing signing suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Ash Handley’s testimonial game against Wigan Warriors on January 26 and won’t play a competitive match this year.
Brodie Croft
A failed head injury assessment last Saturday means the stand-off is ruled out of Sunday’s game. Rhinos hope he will be available for the away clash with Catalans Dragons six days later.
Cameron Smith
Leeds’ loose-forward and co-captain will have an operation on an ankle injury – sustained against Salford – next Tuesday. The recovery time is estimated at eight-10 weeks.
Ben Littlewood
The 20-year-old forward underwent surgery on a hamstring injury early in pre-season. He is around seven-nine weeks away from being available for selection.
Ned McCormack
The rookie centre hasn’t played since suffering hamstring damage in the act of scoring against Warrington last July. He has had an operation and could be sidelined for the entire season.
Max Simpson
The centre had hoped to be back on the field this month, for the first time since an anterior cruciate ligament tear in January, 2023, but sustained a separate hamstring injury in training, ruling him out until April.
Fergus McCormack
Like his elder brother, the teenage half-back has a hamstring injury and no return date has been given.
Castleford Tigers
Jason Qareqare
The winger picked up a hamstring injury at training in January and is a “fair way” from returning, according to coach Danny McGuire.
Rowan Milnes
The stand-off is in light training after a knee injury. He could be back on the field after Tigers’ Challenge Cup break in two weeks’ time.
Cain Robb
The hooker has had “a few niggles and setbacks” and is “not quite” ready to play, according to coach Danny McGuire.
Sam Hall
Sidelined since undergoing shoulder surgery last year, the prop could be back on the field towards the end of this season.
Louis Senior
Tigers hope the winger will be available midway through the season. He hasn’t played since undergoing surgery on a quad muscle injury 10 months ago.
Will Tate
The winger suffered an ankle injury in training, requiring surgery and is likely to be out of action for four months.
