Leeds Rhinos’ Tom Briscoe opens up on move away as shock transfer looms

Tom Briscoe will not be a Leeds Rhinos player in 2023 – that much is fact.

But, his next destination is currently up in the air, with the Yorkshire Evening Post previously reporting that he is heading for the Leigh Centurions.

It remains to be seen whether or not that is true, but it is the end of an era for Briscoe at Leeds – and the winger revealed just how sad he was to be leaving.

“Moving on, I’m gutted to be leaving the club,” Briscoe told Rhinos TV.

“But with that brings new opportunities and we will see what happens in the future. (For now) I want to concentrate on the last few games of the season.

“We’re in a good spot in the play-offs, so to finish the season well after everything I’ve achieved at this club would be great and a great send off.”

For Leeds, the difference between Rohan Smith coming in and the previous run of form under Richard Agar has been like night and day as the Rhinos stars clearly look to be enjoying their rugby again.

Unfortunately for Briscoe, a ten-week deadline for his injury became 15 weeks as the winger struggled to regain full fitness, but he is in contention to play against the Huddersfield Giants tomorrow night.

“It’s exciting,” Briscoe continued after being asked about his return. “Obviously I’ve had a long break and a long time out due to some unforeseen circumstances at the start, but I’m really excited now.

“I joined in with the boys last week for a couple of sessions and I managed to get through them.

“So, I’ve joined in this week fully, so we’ll see what happens, I’m back in the squad and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”
