Salford Red Devils captain Kallum Watkins has tipped Leeds Rhinos to make the Super League play-offs – at the expense of a huge side.
The Rhinos are still very much in the race to reach the Super League play-offs.
Rohan Smith was relieved of his head coach duties earlier this year when the side looked like they had little chance of reaching the top six, but since Brad Arthur has joined, there has seemed to be somewhat of an improvement.
Without their high number of errors, there has been lots of good bits of rugby played by this Rhinos side, and with two games to go of the regular season, they could yet make it.
As things stand, they sit behind St Helens on just points difference, and one point behind fifth-placed Leigh Leopards.
However, their games to close the season out are against the top two in the league – Wigan Warriors and Hull KR.
Leeds Rhinos tipped to make the play-offs by England star
Nevertheless, Watkins, who used to play for the Rhinos, said, on the 5 Live Rugby League podcast:
“I think Leeds are a big danger to getting in there.
“I think St Helens need to perform better and I think they’ll probably need two wins out of the next games to make that because I think Leeds, off the back of the confidence boosting victory at the weekend, if they can replicate that, and I think they will.
“I think Brad Arthur has really got to grips with this team.
“It changed the defensive mindset straight away but now I’m looking at their attack going, ‘wow this looks good’. So Saints they’ll be looking down going, ‘we need to win games ASAP’.”
St Helens face Castleford Tigers this week, who have only won one game since July – and that was against lowly Hull FC.
Saints will then conclude their regular season campaign with a huge game against Leigh Leopards.
