Leeds Rhinos suffer major blow as forward ruled out for 12 weeks

Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar came out with some disappointing news for fans earlier on this evening, confirming that barnstorming prop Tom Holroyd will be forced to sit out on the sidelines for three months with injury.

Holroyd, Agar confirmed, has a syndesmosis injury and will be heading for surgery following a knock that he took in Leeds’ victory over Featherstone Rovers in a pre-season friendly at the weekend.

“We have had some disappointment and a setback with Tom after the Featherstone game,” Agar told theĀ club’s Youtube channel.

“It’s a worst case scenario for us, its a syndesmosis and he’s got some separation there.

“We have decided to operate and the operation will take place next Tuesday, so we will be looking at a 12-week rehab period before he can play again.

“Although we are pretty confident that if the surgery is successful, we can perhaps shave a week or two off of that.”

Agar professed just how hard it is on the 20-year-old, with Holroyd facing an injury at the same time last year.

“It’s pretty tough on Tommy, he got an injury where he got a crack in his leg at pre-season time last year which affected him at the start of last season so it’s a disappointing one for him.

“He’d been travelling great in pre-season but it will set him back and we will definitely miss him.

“We will be looking at round 6 or 7, but he will get terrific medical care and hopefully we can get him back fighting fit for those earlier rounds.”
