Leeds Rhinos suffer huge blow

Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith

Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants are set to complete a huge weekend of action which has seen Warrington Wolves and Hull FC collide and Wigan Warriors head over to France.

On Friday night, Leigh Leopards where battered by Hull KR in a statement win for the Robins as they avenged their Challenge Cup Final heartache at the hands of the Leopards at Wembley.

Castleford Tigers meanwhile were well beaten by St Helens whilst Salford Red Devils defeated Wakefield Trinity 20-0 to take a step towards the play-offs.

But on Saturday the big games came as Warrington claimed a vital win at the expense of Hull FC whilst Wigan laid down a marker against Catalans.

Now Leeds and Huddersfield are set to take centre stage. It hasn’t been an ideal preparation for what is a must win game for the Rhinos in their play-off hunt.

Nene MacDonald has gone back to Australia whilst Corey Johnson and James McDonnell have suffered knocks.

Morgan Gannon is back but to the surprise of many Jack Sinfield played for the Under 18s on Friday.

This means that Rhyse Martin is shockingly named at stand-off with Gannon on the bench.

Luis Roberts starts in the centres with Derrell Olpherts returning to start on the wing in place of David Fusitu’a.

He is out with a back injury.

Harry Newman starts after his return from injury. Sam Walters moves into the backrow as Leon Ruan gets a rare run out on the bench.
