Leeds Rhinos star reveals plan to get better as he returns to training

Rhyse Martin has returned to Leeds Rhinos after a deserved break after he was one of Leeds’ best player in 2023 and helped Papua New Guinea to the Rugby League World Cup quarter-finals where they lost to England.

Speaking to the Rhinos’ YouTube channel, Martin revealed what it was like getting back into the thick of things:

“It’s been good, a shock to the system, the body isn’t feeling too bad. I have the first week soreness, everyone else is flying after eight weeks and I’m trying to catch up but everything is looking good.”

He also revealed what he did in his time away:

“I spent the first couple of weeks moving into a new house and at the start of December having a break and reflecting on the year and get my goals and all that set and getting my hunger for this season.

“Last year was great but hopefully we can do it again.”

Martin is keen to kick on after last season and he underlined what he needs to do to ensure he does exactly that:

“For me I need to reset, reassess and build off what I was doing well last season. I have a few things I need to improve on personally to be a better player so hopefully I can build off that and what happened last season. If we’re playing strong as a team and doing together that will go along way. I just have to do my job.”
