Leeds Rhinos star headline inclusion in Papua New Guinea squad alongside Leigh Centurions men and former Rhino

Papua New Guinea’s first squad for the rugby league world cup has been revealed as they prepare for a clash with Tonga on Tuesday.

It should be a brilliant game at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium as one of the five teams tipped for glory, Tonga, face Papau New Guinea who are dark horses to go far in the tournament.

The loser is likely to meet England in the quarter-finals of the tournament after England beat Samoa yesterday.

In the PNG squad, the headline inclusion is Leeds Rhinos’ Rhyse Martin who is just four goals away from setting a new record for most consecutive goals without missing.

He’s joined by former Rhino Wellington Albert as well as Leigh Centurions stars Nene MacDonald – who has been linked with a move to Leeds, Lachlan Lam and Championship Player of the Year Edwin Ipape.

NRL stars like Alex Johston, Xavier Coates and Justin Olam feature.
