They say it is often the strongest squad that wins trophies and Richie Myler believes the squad assembled by Rohan Smith at Headingley for 2023 is a strong one.

This is because they have plenty of youth and a chance to develop:

“We have a very young squad at the minute, lots of young players keen to learn and very talented
and the small things you can chuck into them is good and they’re keen to learn and it’s good.

“I think that helps, if you stay fit and healthy. I think we hardly played together six, seven, nine and one. We had a lot of injuries and players playing in different positions. It’s credit to the squad we’ve assembled, we have a lot of young players who are keen.

“I’ve always said it takes a good squad to get anywhere near competing and if we can stay fit and
healthy then I’ll be looking forward to it.”

Myler himself is enjoying pre-season:

“It’s been good I was in a couple of weeks ago to keep sticking over and I need to get back to it
now.”

He has also been impressed by new signing and fellow Ireland international James McDonnell who joins Leeds Rhinos from Wigan Warriors:

“He’s a grafter, he’s a very hard worker. A no nonsense guy, he gets his head down. He impressed
me in camp, I spoke to Rohan whilst I was in camp and said how impressed I was with how he trains and carries himself. The South Stand will look forward to watching him play.”
