Leeds Rhinos have made several major signings ahead of the new Super League season.
The Rhinos have an entirely new spine with former Olympian and Newcastle Knights fullback Lachie Miller, former Huddersfield Giants halfback Matt Frawley as well as Salford Red Devils duo Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers for a combined fee of £300,000.
On top of this, they have replaced Salford Red Devils bound Nene MacDonald with the arrival of Paul Momirovski from the Sydney Roosters after he won the NRL Grand Final with Penrith Panthers in the past.
They have also signed forward Mickael Goudemand from Catalans Dragons as well as former Castleford Tigers forward Kieran Hudson.
Some vital new faces but are also set to keep some key current players.
Leeds Rhinos set for key retentions
There is some good news for Leeds Rhinos fans as Serious About Rugby League reports that key players’ re-signings are in progress. However, it’s unclear who these players are, but fans will surely hope that Harry Newman is among them.
At present, the team is focused on retaining its players, and not on recruiting new ones. The Rhinos have already agreed a new deal for former Wigan Warriors star James McDonnell.
Rugby union prop Lewis Boyce, who has been on trial with the team in recent weeks and months, could still be offered a contract by Leeds. The team can afford to give him a contract because he doesn’t count on the salary cap under the rules about rugby union converts.
Key quota players Rhyse Martin and David Fusitu’a are both out of contract. Alongside, Harry Newman they will be the priority retentions ahead of the new season but current players on longer deals may be given extended deals as in the past.
