Leeds Rhinos send promising youngster to Championship club on loan

Promising young Leeds Rhinos talent Zak Lloyd has made the move to the Championship on loan.

Lloyd has joined up with Hunslet on an initial one-week loan and there is an option to extend his time at the South Leeds Stadium further on what appears to be a rolling week to week basis.

The forward is highly rated at Headingley after impressing in the academy and reserves set up last year. And, he was involved for the Rhinos during pre-season, stepping off the bench on Boxing Day in the clash with Wakefield Trinity.

He’ll be keen to build on that experience by picking up some senior competitive minutes with Hunslet and catching the eye in the Championship.

He looks set to make his debut for Hunslet this weekend when Kyle Trout takes his side to Salford RLFC and he’ll be keen to help the Parksiders pick up their first win of the new league season.

“Zak joins us off a recommendation through my former team mate Chev Walker,” Hunslet director of rugby Keith Senior said. “He trained with us last night and fitted in straight away, taking control of the plays and showed some good signs.

“He is athletic, a good size and a real handful. We are looking forward to seeing how he goes.”

Lloyd is the second Super League youngster to join Hunslet on loan this week, with Alfie Leake joining the club on loan from Bradford Bulls.

Hunslet lost their opening league fixture against Dewsbury Rams and they were beaten convincingly by Huddersfield Giants in the Challenge Cup last week.
