Leeds Rhinos’ Sean Long posts defiant message

Leeds Rhinos assistant coach Sean Long has posted a defiant, short message on his social media after the club’s season was ended prematurely by St Helens.

The Rhinos went down 36-8 to Saints in last Friday’s semi-final play-off, but had won a number of admirers along the way for their handling of adversity with head coach Richard Agar coming in for praise.

Long stated: “#rhinos end of season social. Next year is the key to success”.

Leeds had managed to finish in the Super League play-offs after losing the likes of Jack Walker, Luke Gale, Alex Mellor and Liam Sutcliffe – as well as others – to long-term injuries.

But, after progressing through the elimination play-off with an 8-0 victory over Wigan Warriors on their own patch, the Rhinos’ stubborn season ended at the Totally Wicked Stadium last weekend.

Leeds have already signed the likes of Blake Austin, Aidan Sezer and James Bentley for the 2022 season as a big rebuild ensues.
