Leeds Rhinos reportedly set for sensational coaching and halfback move following Richard Agar’s departure

Leeds Rhinos have reportedly set their sights on one major target for their head coach – as well as his son.

There were claims from the Daily Telegraph that Wests Tigers boss Michael Maguire could have been heading for the door to be replaced by Kyle Flanagan’s father, Shane.

Shane Flanagan is currently in a backroom position for the St George Illawarra Dragons, but may well be tempted by the lure of a head coaching role.

For his son, Kyle, he has yet to take the 2022 NRL season by storm and has instead been plying his trade in the reserves.

That also prompted speculation that Flanagan could be involved in a sensational swap-deal with much maligned Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks.

Wests, however, have denied those rumours point blank with the club also denying that it is considering making a play for Flanagan’s father, Shane, to replace Michael Maguire as coach.

That has since led Channel 9’s The Mole to report that Flanagan senior and junior could well head to Super League to join the Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos chief executive, Gary Hetherington, is currently undergoing a fact-finding trip in Australia, desperate to find a new head coach that can turn around the West Yorkshire club’s fortunes in 2022.

Richard Agar stepped down as boss a fortnight ago with Jamie Jones-Buchanan taking over as interim head coach.

However, Leeds have just one win in eight games so far in 2022 so Hetherington’s trip has become all the more important.
