Leeds Rhinos are in the driving seat to sign a Castleford Tigers star.
Sources close to Serious About Rugby League have revealed that Jason Qareqare is likely to join Leeds to link up with his brother at Headingley.
Qareqare burst onto the scene with a dazzling display when the Tigers met Hull FC at the Jungle, turning Jake Connor inside and out with his first touch of the ball.
That try was declared Castleford’s Try of the Year, with Qareqare making a further two appearances for the West Yorkshire club in 2021 – though he failed to add to his try-scoring tally.
The Fijian-born winger/fullback has yet to make an appearance in 2022 for the club, but the Queen Ethelburga student is definitely one to look out for in the future.
Having been born in Fiji into an army family, Qareqare was whisked off to Germany from 2004-2008 before moving to Yorkshire.
A keen footballer, Qareqare then decided to swap sports to rugby league when he witnessed Fiji’s excellent run to the Rugby League World Cup last four back in 2013.
Jason’s brother, Marcus, is currently on the scholarship books at Leeds having joined the under-16s set-up.
