Leeds Rhinos release Christmas song

Whilst the race is on for the Christmas number one, supporters of Rob Burrow are being encouraged to help secure the Christmas number seven for the Rugby League legend and raise money for the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND supporting people living with MND and their families.

The Christmas charity single “Welcome” raising money for the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds.

Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019 and since then has publicly championed raising funds and awareness for everyone impacted by the disease. It has led to an award-winning documentary and best-selling autobiography but Burrow’s greatest achievement and latest goal is to realise the dream of a new MND Care Centre in Leeds, that will bear his name.

Recognising the financial setbacks that charities have faced due to COVID, songwriters Tony Hall, Steve Jones and Ian Thompson wanted to help. Moved by the story of Rob and Lindsey Burrow and their journey through MND, the band TRY decided to rework their song as a Christmas charity single. The song, ‘Welcome’, was originally part of a performance piece ‘Silent Night’ written to commemorate the centenary of the 1914 Christmas truce, a moment in history where true courage was shown in the face of adversity.

Kevin Sinfield OBE, who has raised over £5m in the last year through his epic challenges, has given his support for the single supporting his friend Burrow’s dream to open the MND Care Centre. He commented, “I know that Christmas is a very special time for every family especially for Rob and his young children. I am sure everyone will enjoy the single and play their part in helping it to rise up the charts and raise the fundraising total at the same time.”

‘Welcome’ is released today and available on all the usual download services. The single can be bought as a gift with a personal message and forwarded to friends and families e-mail account from the iTunes website, with just a click of a button.

Rob Burrow MBE added, “The single ‘Welcome’ sums up the spirit of providing a Centre for everyone affected by MND here in Leeds. I would like to thank everyone who provided their talented to make the single possible. Hopefully we can come together to make this the biggest Christmas Welcome possible.”
