Leeds Rhinos are facing an interesting off-season, with some high-profile departures ahead of 2025.
Brad Arthur has signed on for 2025, after signing an initial contract until the end of 2024, and will no doubt be looking to his former side to attempt some new signings.
Ryan Hall will also be heading to Leeds, but being English, isn’t included as a quota player.
Currently, clubs can have a maximum of seven ‘non-Federation trained players’ in their squad – and these players are defined as those that didn’t play three seasons of rugby in Europe before they turned 21.
These rules are much more relaxed than previous rules, which were at one point to only allow three foreign players in most English sides.
The salary cap for ‘home’ players is £100,000 per year, while non-Federation trained players can earn up to £150,000.
Ahead of the current season, the Rhinos signed a number of big names, including Andy Ackers and Brodie Croft from Salford and a trio of Lachie Miller, Paul Momirovski and Matt Frawley from NRL.
A number of these took up quota spots, but there is set to be another shake-up ahead of next year.
Leeds Rhinos’ quota situation for 2025 after major exits
Currently, the Rhinos have all seven quota spots filled up.
The three NRL recruits ahead of 2024 – Lachlan Miller, Paul Momirovski and Matt Frawley are all contracted through next year, while Miller’s also runs through the 2026 season.
Sam Lisone has been a regular off the bench over the past two seasons, and is contracted for another year.
Meanwhile, Brodie Croft has two more years left on the three-year contract he signed ahead of this season.
Two of the Rhinos’ current quota players are off-contract at the end of 2024.
Rhyse Martin rejected a new contract and will be heading to Hull KR next year. Also set to leave is David Fusitu’a, who has struggled with injuries since signing from New Zealand Warriors. He only managed one game before Round 14 this year due to two big injuries and the club seem to have decided that they’ll let him go.
The club are expected to have two spots that they could fill.
