Leeds Rhinos’ quota situation amid Brodie Croft NRL reports

Leeds Rhinos' new transfer signing Brodie Croft

Leeds Rhinos have seen star stand-off Brodie Croft linked with an NRL move, something that could affect the club’s overseas quota spots.

Super League clubs can only roster seven players who are not considered federation-trained with those seven players being classed as overseas.

Currently, Leeds Rhinos are full up on their overseas quota with all seven spots filled thanks to three overseas signings this off-season but there are reports down under that star player Brodie Croft is subject to NRL interest.

The Daily Telegraph first reported that Brodie Croft featured on a five-man shortlist of players that St George Illawarra Dragons were considering to replace Ben Hunt. That was then furthered by reports from Wide World of Sports that the Leeds Rhinos man was ‘keen’ on an NRL return.

Serious About RL’s sister site The Yorkshire Evening Post spoke with Ian Blease who confirmed that the NRL clause in Croft’s contract had passed by meaning the Leeds Rhinos man was unavailable for 2026.

However, given the buying power and pull of the NRL, you’d imagine that a club could still mount a raid if a significant fee was involved. With that said, we’ve assessed all seven of Leeds Rhinos overseas quota players and when their contracts expire.

The contract status of Leeds Rhinos’ quota players

Two of Leeds Rhinos overseas quota players see their contracts expire at the end of the 2025 season. Half-back Matt Frawley is one of those whilst prop forward Sam Lisone is the other.

Both men registered vast improvements in their performances under Brad Arthur and should that continue then they will certainly give Ian Blease a good headache to have about renewing their deals.

Four others see their deal expire at the end of 2026 including the sought-after Brodie Croft. Alongside him are new signings Keenan Palasia and Cooper Jenkins, whilst 2024 signing Lachlan Miller also sees his deal run out at the end of next year.

The third and final off-season signing, Maika Sivo, penned a three-year deal with the club meaning he is tied down until the end of the 2027 campaign after joining following his Parramatta Eels release.

He will reunite with Brad Arthur and challenge both Ryan Hall and Ash Handley for the starting spots on the wing.
