Leeds Rhinos produce interesting response to news that the government could announce MND funding in the next few “days”

This morning on BBC Breakfast, Health Secretary Steve Barclay responded to Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow’s comments about the government over the £50 million they promised in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease, the illness Burrow was diagnosed with in December 2019.

He promised an announcement in “days not weeks.”

“Yes, and it is a massive priority after what Rob has done and what Kevin has done, Doddie Weir and Ed Slater the former Gloucester and Leicester player, it is something I have taken a huge personal interest in.

“The frustration is, we have the funds but there was a concern amongst our scientific community in terms of that they felt that some of the bids were not what we needed from a scientific point of view.

“But I am expecting to be able to announce something very very shortly and be able to address Rob’s concerns.

“Days not weeks.”

This prompted an interesting response from Leeds Rhinos on Twitter.

They seemed happy about the news but not entirely trusting but given the length of time people have waited for the funding, it is no surprise:

“We are watching Steve Barclay and will be counting down the hours not days until yourself and 10 Downing Street keep your promise to the MND community.

“Great work by BBC Breakfast on Rob Burrow’s behalf.”
