Leeds Rhinos man secures permanent exit away as Super League switch confirmed

Leeds Rhinos back rower Ethan O’Neill has departed the club permanently after his loan move to Hull FC has now turned into a two-and-a-half-year contract.

O’Neill only joined Leeds at the beginning of the season, after arriving on a three-year deal from Leigh Leopards. However, he managed just four appearances in Blue and Amber, before May saw him make the loan switch to Hull FC.

Since then, he has played five games under Andy Last, and has slotted in well with his new teammates and fanbase.

A hamstring injury ruled him out of the Magic Weekend defeat to Hull KR, but he is now back in contention for the Black and Whites when they take on York Knights later today.

O’Neill has signed for FC until the end of 2028, and offers the club versatility after featuring in both the back row and centres during his time at the MKM Stadium.

The move comes just hours after St Helens confirmed that back rower Jed Cartwright would join the club on an initial loan. The Red Vee have confirmed their intentions to sign Cartwright on a permanent basis, should the opportunity arise.

Hull FC land Ethan O’Neill permanently as Leeds Rhinos exit confirmed

Hull FC Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, said on O’Neill’s addition: “We are delighted to keep Ethan here on a permanent basis after a promising loan spell over the last couple of months.

“Ethan has been a really positive addition to the group – his work rate is incredibly high, and he has become a strong voice in our pack in only a short time here.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to develop over the coming years in our environment.”
