Leeds Rhinos have learned the result of an RFL disciplinary tribunal after forward Tom Holroyd was handed a Grade E charge.
Holroyd was sent to the tribunal to learn his fate after it appeared that he twisted the arm of Castleford Tigers forward George Hill during Leeds’ 38-24 win at Headingley on Sunday.
Hill tackled Holroyd and found himself face down with both men’s arms under Hill’s body with Holroyd moving to free his arm but yanking Hill’s into an unnatural position as he did so.
The incident left Castleford’s Joe Westerman riled up but no action was taken and Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur agreed, stating: “He’s trying to play the ball quick and get himself released to play it. I thought it was handled pretty good by the ref, no penalty, just let it go. I thought he did a pretty good job with it.”
The Match Review Panel didn’t take the same view as they handed Holroyd a Grade E charge for Dangerous Contact, which automatically sent him to tonight’s tribunal.
Leeds Rhinos man handed two match ban
The RFL have confirmed the result of that tribunal with Holroyd pleading guilty, however, he was able to challenge the grading.
An RFL statement confirmed: “Tom Holroyd of Leeds Rhinos had been charged with Grade E other contrary behaviour by the Match Review Panel following an incident in the Round Three Betfred Super League fixture against Castleford Tigers at AMT Headingley Stadium.
“Holroyd pleaded Guilty but successfully challenged the grading.
“He was found Guilty of a Grade D offence carrying 12 points, meaning a two-match suspension .”
As well as Holroyd, a total of nine other players were charged this week with Castleford’s Jeremiah Simbiken being handed two charges with both earning him a one-match ban. Salford’s Jayden Nikorima was the only other man to be banned.
