Leeds Rhinos make disciplinary appeal decision

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos saw club captain Cameron Smith banned for one match after their 22-16 loss to Salford Red Devils and the club have now made their decision on whether to appeal or not.

Smith was hit with a Grade B charge of ‘Dangerous Contact’ with the one-game ban being at the higher end of the grade. It means he will miss Leeds Rhinos’ clash with Wigan Warriors on Saturday.

It is now confirmed that Smith will miss that fixture with Leeds Rhinos confirming that they have no intention to appeal the decision to ban their skipper.

It’s yet another dent to their squad ahead of the game on Saturday with Brad Arthur’s side possibly missing Mikolaj Oledzki who picked up a knock, although they did see both Justin Sangare and Mickael Goudemand return against Salford.

Smith was banned alongside three other players, Tim Lafai of Salford and Hull FC pair Jordan Lane and Brad Fash with all three men penalised for ‘Head Contact’.

Lafai had been sin-binned after just three minutes in the game against Leeds Rhinos with the centre shown yellow for a high shot on Lachlan Miller.

His charge was marked as a Grade C, however, he still was only handed a one-game ban whereas Fash and Lane copped bans for their Grade B charge, just like Smith.

As yet, there is no confirmation on whether Hull FC or Salford Red Devils will appeal with Hull FC set to face Leigh Leopards on Sunday and Salford taking on St Helens on Thursday night.

Salford know that a win will further solidify their playoff position and create a four-point gap between them and their opponents, but crucially an eight-point lead over seventh-placed Leeds Rhinos. Meanwhile, a loss would see them drop below St Helens.

Whilst Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC will be without key forwards, both teams will have significant rest advantages with their opponents, Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards, both playing tonight in a rare Tuesday night Super League game that can be watched for free.
