Leeds Rhinos look to swoop for Super League rival

Leeds Rhinos look destined to add another Super League player to their ranks.

That follows the news that Castleford Tigers winger Derrell Olpherts will no longer be at the club, with the news confirmed this morning.

It ends a three-year stay at the Jungle, but his destination has been largely unknown though Rugby League Live did reveal an offer from Leeds.

And, now that deal looks set to come to fruition.

Olpherts joined the Tigers ahead of the 2020 season and has gone on to make 63 appearances to date, scoring 35 tries. A consistent regular as a starting winger, Olpherts was in the Tigers’ Challenge Cup Final squad at Wembley Stadium in July 2021.

Just last night in the Tigers’ win over Warrington Wolves, Olpherts bagged himself yet another brace of scores taking his season tally up to 17 for the year, four of which came on a memorable night at Hull FC back in July.

Olpherts has been one of Castleford’s best performers in 2022, having started the season slow, but has become the Tigers’ most metre-maker as well as the club’s top scorer.

It remains to be seen who will fill that gap with James Clare and Sosaia Feki also confirmed to be leaving the Jungle with the latter experiencing a torrid time due to injury.

Cheyse Blaie, Ryan Hampshire and Jake Trueman have also been confirmed to be leaving as Lee Radford tinkers with his squad for 2023.
