Leeds Rhinos look to have suffered another major blow ahead of Super League clash with Catalans Dragons

Leeds Rhinos released a photo of their players heading to the south of France earlier this morning.

Fans were quick to point out potential absentees within the photo including star England centre Harry Newman.

However, another player that wasn’t on the photo was Blake Austin who had been struggling with an injury prior to last week’s win over the Castleford Tigers.

And, it appears as though he has been kept at home by head coach Rohan Smith for one reason or another.

Among the faces are Liam Tindall who will replace Ash Handley, but there is no room for James Donaldson who was wanting to make his long-awaited return from injury.

There were fears that the game tonight could have been postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. However, with the game taking place in France, the fixture was given the green light quite quickly.

In terms of the rest of the sporting weekend, the official guidelines state: “There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period.

“This is at the discretion of individual organisations. As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations.

“If sporting fixtures or events are planned for the day of the State Funeral, organisations may want to adjust the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions. As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, organisers may wish to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events or sporting fixtures, and players may wish to wear black armbands.”

Therefore, it looks promising for Huddersfield Giants as they take on the Salford Red Devils tomorrow lunchtime.
