Leeds Rhinos legends do their bit to raise money for Rob Burrow centre

Things might not be going well for Leeds Rhinos on the field recently with four defeats in five, but off the field the Rhinos continue to do their bit to help legend Rob Burrow in his fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

The former Leeds number seven is an eight-time Super League Champion but was sadly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2019 just two years after retiring from the sport.

Since then, the Rhinos have done so much to support Burrow’s battle against the disease. In January 2020, Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s testimonial fixture became a joint affair with Burrow to raise money to help in the fight.

Since then, Leeds’ then Director of Rugby and Burrow’s former skipper Kevin Sinfield has done so much to raise funds for this cause running seven marathons in seven days before running 101 miles in 24 hours in 2021.

On the back of this, the Rob Burrow Centre for MND was commissioned to again help in the fight against the cruel disease and two Leeds legends have helped raise more funds for the centre.

Yesterday, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, who played alongside Burrow in seven of Burrow’s eight Grand Final wins with Leeds, and Barrie McDermott, who started the 2004 Grand Final on the Leeds bench alongside Burrow, where in Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre to raise money for the centre with a raffle amongst other things.

Making things even better, Sky Sports have promised to match donations up to £1000 meaning the centre is sure to receive a massive boost.
