One of the stories of the week, not just in rugby league, not just in rugby union but in sport in general has been the future of the England Rugby Union side.

This week, after a review into recent performances, Eddie Jones was relieved of his position as England boss.

Shortly after, RFU Chief Executive Bill Sweeney had commented on Jones’ dismissal: “It is important to recognise the huge contribution Eddie has made to English rugby, winning three Six Nations Championships, one Grand Slam and taking us to a Rugby World Cup Final.

“I am grateful to Eddie for all he has done for England across many areas of the game and the professional way in which he has approached reviewing the performance of the team. He has provided the panel with astute insight and meaningful lessons that will support the team performance going forward.”

Jones himself makes for rugby league news given he has routinely been linked with a move to the NRL which has now been enabled by his departure. He was also accompanied by former Hull FC boss and Warrington Wolves star Brett Hodgson in the coaching set up at England with Hodgson replacing former Leeds Rhinos coaching candidate and now Manly Sea Eagles boss Anthony Seibold.

However, with Jones gone, England are looking to bring in a whole new coaching team which would see Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield replace Bret Hodgson as Defence Coach as England go all out for the Leicester Tigers coaching team who delivered the Premiership in 2022.

This would see Steve Brothwick take over as England boss and Sinfield join him as defence coach.

However, it was reported last night by the Mirror that the Tigers are going to try and make this as difficult as possible and block the move.

Now the Telegraph have revealed that they want £2 million for Sinfield and co underlining the impact he has already had and what rugby league has missed out on.
