Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield smashes yet another funding target

Kevin Sinfield has done it all in the sport of rugby league from Grand Final glory, to individual honours and captaining England.
Over the weekend he accomplished something special as he ran seven ultramarathons in seven days to raise money and awareness in the battle against Motor Neurone Disease in the name of good friend and former teammate Rob Burrow who was diagnosed in 2019.
The Leeds Rhinos legend guided Leeds Rhinos to seven Super League titles as captain of the club.
He also lifted three World Club Challenges, three League Leaders’ Shields and a pair of Challenge Cups in a trophy laden career.
Awarded the Lance Todd Trophy in 2005, the Harry Sunderland Award in 2009 and 2012 as well as the Golden Boot as the world’s best player in 2012, he scooped individual honours too.
In his final season in the game, Sinfield guided Leeds Rhinos to a historic treble.
He also holds the record for the most points in Super League history and the most goals. He is also third on the all time points scorers list in the sport and second for Super League appearances.
Yet, he will tell you the biggest achievement he has accomplished is the money he has raised in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease as again seen with his latest challenge.
Since his former teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed in December 2019, Sinfield has raised millions in the fight against MND running seven marathons in seven days in 2020, 101 miles in 24 hours last year and yesterday he completed his latest challenge.
He set out to raise £777,777.77 with this challenge and he smashed that target on Friday before breaking £1 million before he took to the field at Old Trafford at the Rugby League World Cup Final as he completed his challenge at halftime.
Now though he has passed the £2 million marker and that’s without the help of gift aid.
It has of course resulted in suggestions that Sinfield should become officially Sir Kev after being dubbed that for years by the Leeds Rhinos fans.
Those fans as well as the wider rugby league community should be commended for helping raise this money.
