In the last two games, Dom Young and Ryan Hall have started on the wings for England and between them they have scored 10 tries in the wins over France and Greece.
However, many believe Tommy Makinson is England’s first choice winger as Super League’s best winger since 2018 and a Golden Boot winner.
So, this leaves the other wing spot for Hall and Young to battle it out.
Despite the fact Young scored four tries yesterday and has scored eight overall which is the most in the tournament, Super League’s most successful player and Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Peacock believes his former teammate Hall should start on the wing ahead of Young.
He explained why on BBC yesterday: “The reason I would go with that is not a critique of Dom Young, he has been outstanding. He has been a superstar of the World Cup and he could be a superstar for the next 10 years, he excites people when he gets the ball in his hands.
“I’m thinking long term and once we are playing the best sides in the world I think there are some facets of Ryan Hall’s game which are best suited to winning those games. It’s not about crowd pleasing, it’s about winning those games.
“It’s his last World Cup, he’ll be really motivated.”
When James Graham responded saying that he believes Young is a better finisher and that’s something England will need in the knockouts, Peacock said: “I’ve seen Ryan Hall score some world class tries that no one else would have been able to score in some high class games.”
He was no doubt referencing the tries Hall scored in the 2011 Four Nations which will live long in the memory.
