This morning the Rob Burrow marathon was announced, and hours after it one of his his former teammates has already confirmed he’ll be running in it.
Taking place on Sunday 14th May 2023, the new event has been inspired by Kevin Sinfield OBE’s running challenges for friend and team mate Rob, and will be staged in partnership with Leeds City Council.
This brand new marathon will honour Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow MBE and help raise vital funds for The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Centre Appeal, as well as the MND Association. The route will start and end at Headingley Stadium and 7,777 entries will be available, in honour of Rob’s shirt number at Leeds Rhinos.
Already confirmed to be there next year at the start line is Burrow’s former teammate Keith Senior. Senior was a member of the Rhinos’ first team when Burrow debuted as a youngster in 2001 and the two won four Super League Grand Finals together forming a unique bond between big centre and little halfback.
Senior was one of many players who played one final game in Leeds colours in January 2020 alongside Burrow just a month after his MND diagnosis in a great occasion at Headingley and Senior will again be doing something to support Burrow and his fight against MND when he runs the marathon next May.
Shortly after the announcement, Senior took to Twitter to confirm that he would be running. He said: “It’s been a while since the running shows were on, but lacing them back up for this, see you all on the start line.”
