Double injury blow for Leeds

Leeds Rhinos injuries

Brian McDermott will be without Ashton Golding (hamstring) and Brett Delaney (knee) for Monday’s trip to Widnes.

The duo picked up injuries in last night’s 40-0 victory over Warrington.

Speaking after the game, the Rhinos head coach confirmed that both players are likely to miss the next few weeks.

“It’s a hamstring strain for Ashton and we’re hoping it’s only a couple of weeks,” he said.

“Brett has twisted his knee on the way down in the contact. There was nothing untoward in the tackle, it was just very unfortunate.”

After Golding picked up the injury in the first half, McDermott was forced to reshuffle his team.

This meant Liam Sutcliffe switching to full-back and he earned particular praise from the Leeds boss.

“We adapted really well as a team, Sutty has played a lot of full-back for us and the try he scored in the first half was pleasing.

“He kept Ryan Atkins guessing with the way he carried the ball at centre and then he went to full-back and did exceptionally. He has played a lot of games in that position and it showed.”
